PowerPal Gone Flat
After almost 3 years, my PowerPal one day stopped working. I checked the connections and there was nothing obvious. After a bit of Googling, I found a Whirlpool article that spoke about PowerPal’s going flat. They aren’t powered through your smart meter, but instead via 2 x AA batteries!
I found via the “Your Paypal Hardware” section in the app that there is a Battery Level….. well at the last sync, mine was 2%. So it had gone flat. Unfortunately the AA batteries cannot be swapped out and I wouldn’t suggest opening the device. The AA batteries as they are soldered in, so you cannot swap them out plus you could also affect the weather rating for the device.
PowerPal’s come with a 5-year warranty, so I was well within that period and arranged a replacement via PowerPal support.
After 3 days, a new device arrived! Set it up and it synced all my old data across into my app and now back up and running. I lost maybe 5 days’ worth of data, but that is okay.
Overall, contact PowerPal support and they can help you out if you are in the 5 year Warranty Period.
